A couple days ago while Doms and Nikki went to the PATARA Elephant Farm, Rosalie and I opted for an elephant trekking, rafting and hiking package and to our surprise was quite fun. We started by visiting a (boring) butterfly/Orchid farm….a quick 20 minute stop before the more exciting things....I managed to find 1 butterfly but it was dead.... I also capture an amazing moment, Rosalie found 1 out of the 4 butterflies!!
We then made our way to the elephant camp where we went on a 40 minute trek. Rosalie managed to ride the elephant bareback while the rest of us had to sit on the seat. At first Rosalie was a little nervous but shortly into the ride she became a pro and rode like a champ… ok, ok maybe not but she managed to stay on top of the elephant's neck for the entire trek…while feeding it bananas…what a multi tasker!
After this we hiked to a waterfall which was better then the last one... we had a quick swim then lunch (enough to feed an ant..thank god for the liquid meal). I bought Tom, our tour guide a beer and all of sudden beers were coming at me constantly until the end of the tour. I was concerned as he had to drive us back but he said: "Don't worry Mr. Marc I do this all the time"
After a short drive in our A/C truck we arrived along the river where we went Rafting. No pictures as it was going to be too wet so I had to trust Tom with my man bag…..I was more worried about him borrowing money for beer!
We had a good time on the raft... our guide was a little grumpy for an undetermined reason….maybe he could see/smell Rosalie's gift for a lack of better words....She had 'to go' soooo as we were heading down the rapids, I could see a sign of relief on her face as she went #1......
And lastly….bamboo rafting!!! Rosalie (the captain) led the way on what I like to call a 'submarine of a raft' as it was about a foot into the water as we went downstream. Thank god the ride was quick as it was a little sketchy!!!
Overall it was a great day and you can't beat the cheap Chiang Mai price……$30
